Summer is here. What have you planned to read this summer?
There are many others on the internet asking this same question.
Here are some lists for starters:
Wall Street Journal’s – Summer’s Best Reads
NPR: Booksellers’ Picks: 15 Soaring Summer Reads
Hope you will leave a comment for others and maybe you’ll see something that interests you.
Hi, everyone–Now that we have the Bradbury stories available, I’m wondering what everyone thinks of them?! I think they show two rather different sides of Bradbury’s genius for significant commentary on the human condition via the sci/fi fantasy genre. I’ve taught “The Veldt” to high school kids–they loved it, but it scared them!
Anyway–I’d love to share in your thoughts here, or when we get together next month.–Lyn
Thanks for the story recommendations Lynn. I also loved “The Veldt” — I had never read it before. It was chilling. He has such skill at capturing the parent/child dynamic — the spoiled child, the indulgent parent — it was close to believable. I am going to have to make more time in my schedule for Bradbury stories.
I enjoyed the other story also — it didn’t affect me as much as “The Veldt” — but it was clever, and sad.
Both of these stories were wonderful. I love science fiction… although I am hoping by 2026 the house is telling me the water, gas and light bills have been paid… NOT they are due today.
I’m so glad to hear that you liked the stories, Bonnie and Mary Anne! Sharing this kind of reading experience is an example of my attitude toward Great Books orthodoxy: if it’s really a great book, I don’t think we should ever exclude any work just because the author isn’t on “the list.” Thanks, again, for posting your thoughts. See you for Common Sense!–Lyn
